Heba Morayef, Director of the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International , described the decision to renew the Israeli occupation, the solitary confinement of the detainee Ahmed Manasra , as a "brutal act of extreme injustice", especially in light of the suffering he is being subjected to. Severe psychological problems since his arrest as a child seven years ago.
Morayef said in a press statement today, Thursday, "It is appalling that the Israeli authorities have renewed Ahmed Manasra´s period of solitary confinement. Continuing to hold him in such inhumane conditions is a brutal and extremely unjust act. Ahmed has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and he is in Severe depression".
She added, “Ahmed Manasra was only 13 years old when he was arrested, and from the start the decision to detain him should have been the last option and for the shortest possible time. to renew his solitary confinement and to release him from prison promptly.”
On Wednesday, the Israel Prison Service rejected a request to release Manasra from solitary confinement in Eshel prison.
Another hearing regarding the circumstances of his solitary confinement will be held in the Beersheba District Court on 16 August.
His lawyer, Khaled Zabarka, told Amnesty International: “He poses a real danger to his life, and the repeated decisions to extend his solitary confinement are destroying him.”
