Press Committee: The occupation arrests 26 Palestinian journalists in its prisons

A press committee specialized in monitoring media freedoms in Palestine has warned of the increasing violations of the occupation against Palestinian journalists, and the increase in the number of journalists detained in the occupation prisons, which reached 26 journalists.

The Committee to Support Journalists condemned, in a statement, today, Monday, the Israeli occupation forces´ arrest of the Palestinian journalist Bushra Al-Tawil, on Sunday evening, and the continuation of the policy of trying journalists, the last of which was the issuance of a ruling against the journalist Mujahid Mardawi, to 10 months in detention.

The committee indicated that the occupation forces arrested the journalist Bushra al-Tawil (27 years) at a military checkpoint near the Yitzhar settlement, south of Nablus, while she was returning from Jenin.

The occupation authorities released Al-Tawil on July 28, after spending 8 months in administrative detention, and she is a photojournalist and "active in the defense of prisoners."

The committee pointed out that recently, the occupation forces have arrested a number of journalists, including Tariq Abu Zaid, Abdul Rahman Al-Zahir and Osama Shaheen, bringing the number of journalists detained in the occupation prisons to 26 journalists, including 9 journalists detained with actual sentences, and 8 others. Administrative detainees, while 9 detainees are awaiting in the basements and interrogation centers, while their detention continues without trial and without any charge against them, pointing out that among the two journalists, Mays Abu Ghosh and Bushra al-Tawil, are journalists.

The committee has monitored 64 cases of arrest and detention, and 39 issuance of judgments, extension and confirmation of arrest warrants and deportations against journalists since the beginning of the year 2020.
