President Abbas Calls for Urgent Action to End the Occupation of Palestine

President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine Urges Immediate Action to End Israeli Occupation and Address Permanent Status Issues

President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine has called for urgent measures to bring an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, which has persisted since 1967. He also emphasized the need to address all outstanding permanent status issues, notably the Palestinian refugee crisis.

President Abbas delivered these remarks during his address to the Group of 77+China, held in Havana, Cuba. He stressed the determination of the Palestinian people, with the support of the Group of 77+China, to overcome the historical injustices that have impeded their development and aspirations for the past century.

He pointed out, "Israel's policies and practices are aimed at consolidating its colonial settler occupation and imposing a reality of apartheid, which cannot be ignored."

President Abbas elaborated, "The developmental situation in Palestine is distinct due to the institutionalized apartheid system enforced by Israel, the unlawful occupation, and the colonial project that hinders our right to development. Israel, as the occupying authority, employs systematic policies designed to undermine the development of the entire Palestinian population."

The President assured his partners in the Group of 77 and China that the Palestinian people would persist and continue their legitimate struggle for their rights. He maintained his belief in the inevitability of achieving freedom and prosperity, attributing it to their sacrifices, commitment to peace, and unwavering support from friends like those in the Group of 77+China.

President Abbas expressed his hope that a future conference on this matter could be convened in the State of Palestine, symbolizing moral and ethical support for Palestinian rights and aspirations."
