US support for Israelis in the conflict with the Palestinians has dropped to 59 percent, the lowest rating in the last 10 years, the Gallup poll published on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 reported.
A poll by the Gallup Foundation, the leading institution in opinion polls, found 59 percent of Americans said they were more sympathetic to Israel in the long conflict than 21 percent said they were more sympathetic to the Palestinians. In other words, support for Israel fell by 5 percentage points from last year, according to the poll, reaching its lowest level since 2009.
The survey found that support for Israel among the Democratic respondents fell by 6 percentage points compared with last year´s poll, while the support among those who said they were Republicans fell by 13 percentage points, a surprising question and a sign that the Republican Party is more supportive of Israel today than the Democratic Party Poll.
The poll shows that Democrats´ support for Israel dropped from 49% to 43%, the lowest level of Israel´s democratic bias since 2005. The Republican support for Israel in the conflict dropped from an all-time high of 87% in 2018 to 76% today .
As for the situation among the Liberal Democrats, the poll found that they are equal in their support for the Palestinians and Israel.
But despite the decline in sympathy with Israel, the poll found that most Americans still view Israel positively.
The Gallup poll showed that 69 percent of respondents had a positive view of Israel, compared with 21 percent who had a positive view of the Palestinian Authority.
Gallup polled 1,016 adults between February 1 and 10, 2019, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points. The poll was conducted before the controversy over Muslim MP Elhan Omar.
