Paris stresses two-state solution

France on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution to ending the conflict in the Middle East after a workshop in Bahrain in which the economic aspect of a peace plan is American.

"We are committed to a framework that is the framework of international law, especially the Security Council resolutions, in a negotiated manner and to work towards the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine living in peace and security within recognized borders, with Jerusalem as the capital of the two states, "said Agence France-Presse.

"We are prepared to keep up with any economic solution in favor of the Palestinian territories when it is complementary to political efforts based on these agreed international standards," she said.

US President George W. Bush and his adviser Jared Kouchner presented an economic plan in Manama on Tuesday and Wednesday, in the presence of international economic officials, aimed at activating the recession-hit Palestinian economy.

The Palestinian Authority, which boycotted the Manama meeting, said the Kouchner plan, which includes monitoring $ 50 billion in investments, much of it for the Palestinian territories, is merely an attempt to impose a political solution that ignores the demand for an independent Palestinian state.

Egypt and Jordan, two signatories to peace agreements with Israel, have sent low-level representatives to the Manama workshop.
