The Foreign Ministry and expatriates on Monday condemned Israel´s decision to expel Human Rights Watch representative Omar Shaker.
The ministry said in a press statement that the expulsion of Shaker "after a process of harassment and prosecution that lasted more than 18 months, is a reflection in Israel´s attempts to silence all voices and efforts to highlight the occupation and oppression and racism and the crimes committed and flagrant violations of international law."
The ministry called on regional and international human rights organizations, associations and unions to "condemn this crime, which tries to silence the voice of truth and expose it on the widest scale."
In this regard, the Foreign Ministry pointed out that Israel prohibits the fact-finding and investigation committees formed from UN councils and organizations from coming to the occupied territories to carry out their responsibilities, as well as its policy of "stifling and gagging".
The Israeli Supreme Court recently upheld the government´s decision to expel Shaker on charges of supporting a movement calling for a boycott of Israel, under a 2017 law banning supporters from boycotting Israel.
