The delegation of the State of Palestine concluded its participation in the international conference to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the twinning program of universities and university chairs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization " UNESCO ", which was held at the organization´s headquarters in the French capital, Paris, under the slogan "Transforming knowledge for a just and sustainable future.
The delegation included the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Water Resources Management at An-Najah National University, Anan Al-Jayousi, the UNESCO Chair in Democracy, Human Rights and Peace at An-Najah National University, Sana Sarghali, and the UNESCO Chair in Data Science for Development at the Arab American University, Magdy Odeh. , Director General of Specialized Departments, Fadi Abu Bakr, and Director General of International Organizations, Kholoud Hantash, from the Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.
The participation comes within the efforts of the National Committee to network between the holders of “UNESCO” chairs in Palestine and their counterparts from different countries of the world, and in the context of its quest to expand the scientific presence of Palestinian higher education institutions at UNESCO, by creating more scientific chairs in Palestinian universities in the specialized fields within sectors of work and interests of "UNESCO".
Sarghali gave a presentation on the sides of a plenary session on mechanisms for responding to global multidimensional crises, in which she addressed the UNESCO initiative represented in the new social and environmental contract from a constitutional point of view, the role of youth, and the importance of involving them at the national and international levels to develop appropriate and relevant perceptions. The Palestinian delegation participated in the dialogue sessions. Specialized in the field of education transformation, scientific research, cultural heritage protection, water sciences, open science, artificial intelligence, future technology dialogue, and other sessions dedicated to the National Commissions for UNESCO.
On the sidelines of the conference, representatives of the "National Committee" Fadi Abu Bakr and Kholoud Hantash held a series of meetings with the Head of the Office of Arab States in the External Relations Sector at UNESCO, Fida Habash, the Head of the Department of Water Sciences and Secretary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Program of UNESCO Abu Amaneh, and the Head of the Specialized Department in the Environmental Hydrology, Water Quality and Water Education Program at UNESCO, Jorge De Luca, and the meeting with the delegation and delegate of the State of Palestine to the organization represented by Ambassador Munir Instas and the mission staff in order to coordinate in the fields of work and the Palestinian presence in the organization in specialized fields of work.
The conference focused on the spirit of international scientific, ethical, intellectual and academic community, and the promotion of interdisciplinary dialogue and cooperation between universities to confront and complex challenges on the horizon, through this program, which includes more than 850 chairs, and a UNESCO twinning program in more than 110 countries around the world.
