North Korea warned Monday that it would not stand idly by over any UN Security Council attempt to raise the issue of its "self-defense measures", apparently referring to its latest missile test. .
Britain, France and Germany called for a closed UN Security Council session on Tuesday to discuss North Korea´s test of a ballistic missile fired from the sea last week. The three countries considered this test a "serious violation" of UN resolutions.
North Korea´s ambassador to the UN Security Council, Kim Sung, said raising the issue "will reinforce our desire to defend our sovereignty."
North Korea was warned two days after its nuclear talks with Washington collapsed.
The talks in Sweden followed months of stalling following a summit of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi in February that failed to make any headway.
The North Korean ambassador urged the three European countries to take into account the timing of their move, adding that they should "realize that we will never stand idly by in any attempt to discuss our actions in self-defense."
North Korea is under UN economic sanctions, the toughest of which was imposed by the UN Security Council in 2017 following a nuclear test by Pyongyang on a long-range missile.
Since 2006, Pyongyang has conducted six nuclear tests, the latest of which was on September 3, 2017.
