European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Frederica Mugirini on Tuesday called on Israel to fully implement economic and financial agreements signed with the Palestinians, including the Paris Protocol.
In a press conference held on the sidelines of a donors´ conference in Brussels, Mugherini said the current financial crisis facing the Palestinians must be resolved to prevent a financial meltdown that could have serious implications for security in the region as a whole.
"The Palestinian economy needs resources to grow, and the EU is ready to help all parties to return to the dialogue based on the agreements signed between them," she said.
"The EU continues to support the Palestinians because they have the right to live in dignity," she said, adding that the EU has announced additional aid to support the poorest of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, worth 22 million euros.
Mujerini stressed that today´s meeting came to support the political goal of the two-state solution, which is agreed by the international community, and that our assistance to the Palestinians can not be separated from the political goal, and that the aid is not a substitute for a political solution.
