A recent study revealed that electronic systems to help drivers often distract the driver’s focus, which increases the risk of accidents.
The study, conducted by the Institute of Transportation Technology in the State of Virginia in cooperation with the AAA Traffic Safety Foundation in the United States, concluded that drivers who own cars equipped with driver assistance systems are more likely to become involved in distracting behaviors such as writing on keyboards. Or follow the data screens or click on the different control buttons.
The study reported by the website "Vis Dot Org" that the driver assistance systems can improve road safety, but the driver must not overestimate the capabilities of these systems to prevent accidents.
She added that drivers do not obtain sufficient information or data about the driver´s assistance systems before using it on major roads.
According to Seattle Department of Transportation data, 24 traffic accidents caused the death of a driver during the 2018 year distraction.
Traffic laws in Washington state prohibit the use of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablet and mobile devices, and electronic gaming devices, while driving, and impose severe penalties to address such behaviors as fines.
