"There is no justification for attacking civilians in Gaza or anywhere else," Said Nikolai Mladenov, the UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process, on Friday evening.
Mladenov added in a tweet via his Twitter account: "" This is a tragedy! My heartfelt condolences to the Swarka family and I wish the injured a speedy recovery," he said, calling on Israel to move quickly in the investigation.
Mladenov´s remarks came after the Israeli occupation army admitted that it had killed a Palestinian family of eight "by mistake" after its house was targeted by rockets during the escalation in the Gaza Strip.
"He estimated that the building in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip was empty and did not realize that it was inhabited by a family," the Haaretz newspaper quoted the Israeli army as saying.
"It is investigating the raid, which took place a few hours before the ceasefire came into effect in the Gaza Strip on Thursday morning," the army said.
