A delegation led by Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amkam Norkin went to Moscow on Thursday, the Israeli army said.

The visit followed the downing of a Russian airliner in the Syrian city of Latakia on Monday evening, in which Russia accused Israel of being blamed for dropping it.

"The delegation will provide preliminary information and key findings of the IDF investigation into the downing of the Russian airliner in Syria," the Israeli army said in a statement.

During the visit, the Israeli delegation will discuss the issue of "Iranian attempts to transfer strategic weapons to Hezbollah and Lebanon, and their military positioning in Syria."

The Israeli Air Force commander will accompany the Israeli army´s foreign relations chief, Brigadier-General Ayers Meizel, and other officers from the Military Intelligence Service, the Air Force and the Operations Authority, the official Hebrew radio reported.

The Israeli army fears that the incident would negatively reflect "the freedom of its activities in Syrian airspace."

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the killing of 15 people aboard its "Il-20" aircraft, which was dropped by the Syrian regime´s air defenses by a missile from the "s-200" system.

Moscow blamed the downing of the entire Russian airliner for Tel Aviv. Israeli warplanes covered up the Russian plane, making the latter vulnerable to the fire of the Syrian regime.

Against the backdrop of the incident, the Russian Foreign Ministry later announced the summons of the Israeli ambassador to Moscow.

The crash of the Russian plane led to a diplomatic crisis between Moscow and Tel Aviv, where it was attempted to surround it with contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The crash of the Russian plane led to a diplomatic crisis between Moscow and Tel Aviv, where it was attempted to surround it with contact between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Kremlin said in a statement on the telephone call that the Russian president demanded Netanyahu not to allow cases similar to those that occurred with the plane "Il 20" in Syria.

According to the Kremlin, "the Russian president has stated that such operations by the Israeli air force violate Syria´s sovereignty. In this case, the Russian-Israeli conventions on the avoidance of serious incidents were not adhered to and, as a result, the Russian aircraft landed with Syrian air defence weapons fire.  "

"Netanyahu has vowed to provide detailed information on the measures that the Israeli Air Force has carried out on Syrian territory, and will soon be presented to Moscow by the Israeli Air Force commander," the Kremlin said.
