The Israeli authorities opened Wednesday morning the only Kerem Salam crossing for residents of the Gaza Strip after a closure that lasted more than 40 days.
The Israeli authorities allowed hundreds of trucks to enter the Gaza Strip after they had been stranded at the crossing and at the port of Ashdod throughout the days of its closure, including quantities of fuel and cement for international institutions.
It also expanded the fishing area to 9 miles off the coast of the Gaza Valley to the south with the maritime boundary with Egypt and six miles to the north of the Gaza Strip.
This was followed by a joint decision by army Minister Avigdor Lieberman and chief of staff Gadi Ezenkot following a security assessment of the situation and a sharp drop in the firing of incendiary planes from Gaza.
