"the city authorities (jerusalem) are considering a plan to stop the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (unrwa) in Jerusalem and provide educational and medical services to the Palestinians themselves," said Nir barakat, mayor of the outgoing Jerusalem occupation Municipality.
The Hadashot channel added that the municipal authorities could close schools and clinics in the Shu´fat refugee camp, run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (unrwa), and grant its residents with municipal services received by other Palestinians residing in East jerusalem, According to the Bloomberg News Agency.
The idea of directing UNRWA from East jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in the 1967 war, came after US President Donald Trump´s administration decided to cut funding for the UN body, which amounts to more than 350 million dollars a year.
Trump told us Jewish leaders last month that he would no longer pay the funding unless the Palestinians agreed to negotiate a peace deal with israel.
