The Indian Ministry of Health on Friday morning reported 396 new deaths due to the new Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19), in addition to 10,956 cases during the past 24 hours throughout The country, bringing the number of deaths to 8,498 and the total number of injuries to 297,535.
This is the largest increase recorded in one day in the country in terms of the number of new deaths and injuries, and it is also the first time that new infections have crossed the threshold of 10,000 cases in one day.
So far, 147,195 patients have been discharged from hospitals after their improvement, according to the ministry. The number of active cases in the country is now 141842.
India has entered the fifth stage of the national closure, as of June 1, and this stage is characterized by many measures to ease restrictions and reopen activities in stages.
Health experts attributed the surge in cases to an increased ability to take tests and ease restrictions.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country´s top health research body, more than 5.36 million cases have been tested by Friday morning.
Randeep Jolleria, director of the All India Medical Sciences Foundation said that cases of Covid-19 disease were likely to reach its peak in June and July.
