Human Rights Report: The occupation demolished 200 houses east of Jerusalem in 2019

Human rights data revealed, today, Thursday, that the occupation forces demolished 200 homes east of occupied Jerusalem during the year 2019.

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights said in its report, that the aforementioned number represents an increase from 177 homes that were demolished during 2018, and 142 homes in 2017.

The report considered that the Israeli demolitions "are part of a systematic policy of forcibly displacing Palestinians, with the aim of changing the demographic character of the city, and amounting to a war crime."

The report highlighted the "policy of racial discrimination pursued by the occupation authorities, while placing restrictions and barriers preventing citizens from obtaining building permits, the authorities use the excuse not to license as a pretext to carry out escalating demolitions, and it is one of many pretexts for demolition, including security and punitive pretexts."

The human rights report stated that "the United Nations´ neglect of the violations of the occupation in Jerusalem encouraged it to commit more of these violations without feeling the imperative of accountability."

He pointed to the announcement by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, of her intention to open an investigation into the commission of war crimes in the Palestinian territories, expressing hope for a serious investigation into all the "violations" of the occupation in the Palestinian territories, especially in the city of Jerusalem, leading to the achievement of justice and an end to the policy of impunity The punishment.

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory warned of the occupation´s plans to demolish more houses and residential neighborhoods in Jerusalem "in favor of implementing settlement projects and changing the demographic character of the city."

He renewed his call for the United Nations to assume its responsibilities to stop the "violation" of the occupation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, and to pressure the occupation authorities to stop violations against citizens in Jerusalem.
