Israeli occupation forces have arrested more than 100 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of this year.
"Since the beginning of this year, until last week, the occupation authorities have arrested 104 Palestinian citizens from the Gaza Strip," said Abdel Nasser Farouana, head of the Studies and Documentation Unit at the Prisoners´ affairs and editors´ affairs.
He explained that the last arrest recorded in the Gaza Strip was of the merchant "Yusuf Hassan", who was arrested last Monday at the Beit Hanoun/Erez crossing, in the northern Gaza Strip.
"These citizens were arrested at sea, fishing, after crossing the eastern or northern Gaza Strip, or through the Beit Hanoun/Erez crossing, while on and off the Gaza Strip."
This year, dozens of passengers were questioned and detained for hours as they moved through the Beit Hanoun crossing, Farouana said.
He explained that the groups arrested through the crossing were patients and their companions, as well as merchants.
"No one is immune from arrest, so citizens need to be educated on how to confront it, and to minimize its risks and negative effects on the Palestinian individual and society," Farouana said.
He added that last year, 2018 saw the arrest of (191) citizens from the Gaza Strip, in the same ways as before.
He noted that the number of detainees in the Gaza Strip was about 300, most of them prisoners of war and high sentences.
