Facebook Messenger users face a lot of embarrassment with no feature that allows messages to be read without the sender´s knowledge.
Although you can´t turn off Message Read Notifications, certain tricks can be used to work around this:
- Read messages on the notification screen
Facebook Messenger sends notifications to your phone when you receive a new message, revealing the sender and the content to read without the Messenger application
However, this trick becomes less effective once you receive a large number of messages in quick succession. The notifications screen can contain only a certain number of messages, and old notifications are canceled when new messages are filtered.
When this happens, you can activate Airplane mode on your device to turn off Facebook´s ability to address the fact that you open the message, as there is no Internet connection. Be sure to close the app after reading the message before deactivating flight mode.
- Install third-party software
For desktop users, it becomes more complicated when you try to stop notifications for reading messages in Messenger.
When it comes to Google Chrome, there are some options available, including opening a new tab and clicking on the "Apps" icon, where you can access the Chrome Web Store.
In the web store, look for the "Unseen" extension and press "Add to Chrome", to install the "Genius" plugin on your browser and automatically block notifications for reading messages, when opening any incoming message to Messenger while using Google Chrome.
