General Antonio Guterres stressed the need for a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions.
"We are seeking a two-state solution with Jerusalem as the capital of the two countries and ensuring the implementation of relevant UN resolutions to stabilize the region", Guterich told a news conference after talks with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
He noted "the great efforts of Egypt and its role to stop the escalation of the situation in Gaza and to provide humanitarian assistance in the sector and efforts to unify the Palestinian ranks."
He stressed the need to unite the ranks of institutions and the national army and government in Libya, pointing out that he will travel from Cairo to Libya to discuss issues related to this country.
On the US decision on the Golan, Guterich said the United Nations insisted that any resolution should respect Syria´s sovereignty over its territory, including the Golan Heights, and hoped that the resolution would not have a negative impact.
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said during the press conference that Egypt appreciates the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to preserve international legitimacy.
Shukri added that cooperation between the African Union and the United Nations is complex and focuses on maintaining peace and security and UN peacekeepers in Africa.
