Human rights groups defending women on Monday staged a women´s rally in the Gaza Strip to demand an end to violence against women as they are persecuted both from occupation and for societal reasons.
Dozens of women took part in the vigil in front of UNESCO headquarters west of Gaza City, and chanted slogans calling for an end to the violence and an end to the occupation, which is one of the causes of oppression of women.
Nadia Abu Nahal, director of the Women´s Affairs Team and coordinator of the women´s sector at the NGO Network, said that the occupation was the cause of violence against women, and that it must end, establish Palestinian rights a
nd determine the state´s destiny.
She called for the adoption of the Family Protection From Violence Act. He called on government and official agencies to take all measures to hold accountable all perpetrators of violence against women, especially those who committed the murder of his daughter by burying her alive in Jabalia, stressing the need for maximum punishment.
She called for the transformation of issues of violence against women into issues of public opinion. Demand the unification of laws, specifically the Law on Personal Matters and Penalties, and the abolition of all forms of discrimination against women.
Sahar Yaghi, a women´s rights activist, said women pay the price for occupation and division crimes that stand in the way of unifying Palestinian laws that limit violence against women.
It called on the United Nations to act in accordance with its laws to protect Palestinian women from violations of the occupation against women in the occupied territories by killing them and to provide them with freedom of travel and detention.
