The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said today, Monday, that it is facing a suffocating crisis due to the lack of medicines and medical supplies, in light of facing the "Corona" virus.
"We are facing a suffocating crisis due to the decrease in the pharmaceutical ingredients, medical equipment, protective supplies, laboratory tests and ventilators," a ministry spokesman, Ashraf al-Qidra, said in a statement.
He added, "The shortage makes us more anxious in the face of Corona, the first threat to health systems in the world."
Al-Qudra called on the international community and its humanitarian and relief institutions "to immediately intervene to save the health situation in the sector."
Gaza suffers from a severe shortage of essential medicines, reaching 39 percent, 32 percent of the medical consumables shortage, and 60 percent of the laboratories and blood banks´ deficit, according to previous data from the Ministry of Health in the Strip.
According to the Palestinian government, the number of those infected with the Coronavirus in the Palestinian territories reached 115, Monday, 9 of whom were from the Gaza Strip.
