French security agency fears "series of surprise attacks"

The head of France´s National Security Agency, Guyce Boubard, has expressed fears of a "series of sudden attacks", saying all technical elements are available for the Pearl Harbor cyber attack.

"We are afraid and hope to avoid a series of major surprise attacks," Boubard said in an interview with Le Parisien newspaper published on Friday night.

"All the technical elements are available, and there remains only motivation, and the first spark."

Bopard warned of two risks - "information theft" and "sabotage."

"As geopolitical conditions deteriorate, some countries may one day try to launch cyber attacks on us," he said.

The director of ANSI said that the agency "monitored attacks from state bodies, private or terrorist, not aimed at destruction so far, but to study electronic systems" in three important sectors, "energy, communications and transport."

"For example, terrorist attacks, to be used 10 years later, should be preceded by a hijacked aircraft," he said.

The French government announced on Friday its intention to enhance the "security of cellular networks" in order to avoid attempts to spy on the new generation of the Internet on the smart phones, "G5", or sabotage.

The proposal comes on the back of mistrust of the world´s first provider of electronic services, Huawei, and fears that Chinese intelligence may use its equipment, a concern expressed by the United States in particular.
