France provides support to meet urgent food needs in Gaza

The United Nations World Food Program welcomed, today, Wednesday, France´s contribution to providing financial assistance amounting to 500,000 euros, to meet the urgent food needs of the needy and vulnerable groups of non-refugees in the Gaza Strip.

According to a statement by the programme, the funds will be used to provide electronic food vouchers to more than 32,000 people for a period of one month, to purchase a variety of nutritious foods of their choice from 200 retail stores located throughout the Gaza Strip.

The statement said that this donation comes at a critical time when families in the Gaza Strip are trying to cope with the increasing deterioration in food insecurity, unemployment and poverty as a result of the recent military conflict.

He added that "the cash transfers provided by the World Food Program through electronic vouchers have once again proven to be a quick and effective tool to provide essential food assistance to people at risk of displacement and loss of livelihoods and property."

He continued, “It places its digital cash transfer platform at the disposal of various humanitarian and development actors to provide food and other basic needs to those affected in Palestine, while at the same time injecting much-needed funds into the local economy.”
