Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue their open hunger strike for the fifth day in a row to protest the Israeli measures against them and demanding improvement of their living conditions.
The spokesman of the prisoners´ affairs committee, Hassan Abed Rabbo, said in a statement Friday that the strike of the captive Palestinian movement in Israeli prisons has entered a new course following the failure of negotiations with the prison administration. He added that "yesterday held a session of negotiations failed by the prison administration, and denied to any of the demands of prisoners, which threatens to escalate confrontation." He pointed out that Egyptian efforts have been made in the past few days with the Israeli authorities, but they also did not make any progress. He pointed out that the next 17 April, will witness an important development with the participation of a large number of prisoners in the strike, which marks the day of the Palestinian prisoner. Since the beginning of 2019, Israeli prisons have been experiencing tension. The prison authorities have taken measures against Palestinian detainees. In the past few days, there has been an increase in tension, following the incursion of special forces into a number of detention centers, beatingings of prisoners and tear gas. According to official statistics issued by the Prisoners´ Affairs Authority, the number of Palestinian prisoners reached about 5,700 prisoners, including 48 women, 230 children and 500 administrative detainees.
