A mass grave containing the remains of 800 German soldiers killed in World War II was discovered during construction work in the southwestern Russian city of volgograd, the German War Graves Committee said Friday.
The commission said that the discovery in the previously disputed city, formerly known as stalingrad, came during the extension of the water pipes.
The Commission added that full drilling operations would be problematic because part of the tomb was located under a residential neighbourhood under Development.
The triumph of Soviet forces in the Battle of Stalingrad is a major turning point in World War Ii. In the winter of 1943/1942, it is estimated that some 700,000 soldiers and civilians died on both Sides.
