The Facebook application administration, last night, suspended and closed dozens of accounts of Palestinian journalists and activists in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
This step is not new, as the Facebook administration has several times closed the pages of journalists and activists within the framework of what is known to pursue Palestinian content.
On Tuesday dawn, the Committee to Support Journalists called on Facebook to stop pursuing Palestinian content and to reactivate suspended accounts.
The Committee appealed to all international institutions, headed by the International Federation of Journalists, UNESCO and Reporters Without Borders, to put pressure on the Facebook administration, which deals with double standards and practices, as it unleashes Israeli pages that advocate racism and hatred, while at the same time restricting the Palestinian pages.
The Committee stressed that this restriction of the Palestinian platforms, whether official or personal, exacerbates the suffering of the Palestinians in light of the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, considering that these disabled pages contribute to educating citizens about the dangers of the virus, and the Palestinians use them for electronic communication and distance education under the shadow of the home quarantine.
The committee indicated that this procedure is contrary to all international covenants and treaties that provide for respect for freedom of opinion and expression.
The committee pointed out that the aim of this restriction is the absence of the Palestinian voice in light of the continuous Israeli plans targeting the Palestinian presence and uprooting it from its land.
The Committee to Support Journalists has monitored during the past month, dozens of violations on the communication sites against the personal accounts of Palestinian activists, in addition to putting restrictions on many of these accounts, such as disrupting direct broadcasting.
