Expectations of an increase in Corona injuries in the Gaza Strip

The Epidemiological Committee Coordinator at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Abed, expected an increase in the number of Coronavirus infections from some contacts, whom the medical staff had not been able to reach until this moment.

Abed said in an interview with "Voice of Palestine" radio on Saturday, that a new quarantine system has been added, which provides for the controlled home quarantine of citizens, adding that 520 citizens are subject to the controlled home quarantine system in Gaza.

He confirmed that the European Hospital has been activated and converted into a Covid 19 hospital, with a capacity of 400 expandable beds, noting that Al-Shifa Hospital has never closed and some departments are still operating until now.

On the source and foci of the epidemic, Abed explained that there is no specific point from which the cases started, i.e. the source of the epidemic, stressing that there are more than one focus of the virus while the designated authorities are working to control these foci, pointing out that the Maghazi region is witnessing a decline in cases.

He noted that some governorates in the Gaza Strip did not record any infection with the Coronavirus, such as Khan Yunis, indicating that the cases were concentrated in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Governorate.

Yesterday, Friday, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip recorded 31 new injuries within the Gaza community, which is considered one of the highest population density in the year. The number of people infected with the virus in the Gaza Strip rose to 164 active cases, including 109 community-based cases that were discovered during the past four days.
