An official in the European Union considered today that Israel´s actions against the Palestinian people "do not contribute" to creating a positive atmosphere between the two sides.
Shadi Othman, the media official in the European Union’s office in Jerusalem, told the official Voice of Palestine radio that “the killings of Palestinians and the continuation of settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem do not contribute to creating a positive atmosphere or setting any political vision for ending the conflict.”
Othman called on the Israeli government headed by Naftali Bennett to “change the approach that has prevailed for a long time and deal with the Palestinian file in a different way through negotiations in order to resolve the conflict between the two sides.”
Othman’s comments came in response to the killing of the 38-year-old Palestinian Imad Dwaikat in clashes with the Israeli army yesterday (Friday) in the village of Beita, south of the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, 24 hours after a visit by the heads of diplomatic missions in the Palestinian territories to the village to see the increase in violence Israeli settlers.
Othman said that the visit took place as part of the work carried out by the European Union and its member states regarding “violations” of settlers and Israeli practices in the Palestinian territories, especially classified (C).
“Beta” has witnessed daily confrontations for more than two months as part of protest activities against the establishment of a settlement outpost on the top of Jabal Sobeih in the village on an area of 20 dunums, threatening to cut off the connection with the town and seize its lands.
Othman affirmed the European Union’s absolute rejection of Israeli settlement, whether in areas classified as “C” of the West Bank or East Jerusalem, stressing the continuation of support for the Palestinian presence in these areas through European projects and contributions to preserve the Palestinian identity.
For his part, Palestine´s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, considered that Israel´s impunity for what it is doing is emboldening it in its crimes due to the lack of accountability, expressing regret over the inability of the international community to stop these grave crimes.
This came in three identical messages sent by Mansour today to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council for this month (India), and the President of the United Nations General Assembly, about the critical situation in the occupied Palestinian territory as a result of Israeli policies, according to what was published by the Palestinian News Agency. Official (WAFA).
In his messages, Mansour called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to pursue accountability in accordance with the principle of the rule of law, adhere to its legal, political and moral obligations, and implement its decisions to protect human lives and put an end to this “injustice.”
