Erekat warns against escalation of the imposition of settlement facts by Israel

Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, warned today, Wednesday, of the risks of Israel escalating the imposition of settlement facts in the Palestinian territories.

Erekat said in a statement after receiving in the West Bank a delegation of American progressives, that Israel "is committing violations of international law and international legitimacy, especially with regard to imposing colonial occupation colonial realities in and around East Jerusalem, Hebron, the Jordan Valley and other occupied lands."

Erekat assured the delegation, which included more than 20 academic and legislative personalities, leaders from civil society institutions, and charities in a number of American states, that the Palestinian people "continues to stand up, remain, and struggle for their freedom and independence."

He stressed the necessity of ending the Israeli "occupation" and embodying the independence of the State of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem, to live in security and peace alongside Israel on the 1967 borders.

He referred to "field executions, confiscation of lands, ethnic cleansing, house demolitions, medical neglect, abuse of Palestinian prisoners, siege and closures, especially for the Gaza Strip."

In the Palestinian internal affairs, Erekat stressed that the Palestinian presidential and legislative elections are "deservingly deserved."

The Palestinian official called on all countries of the world and the forces of democracy to "oblige the occupation authority (Israel) not to obstruct the Palestinian elections by committing to implement the signed agreements."

Palestinian Authority officials recently announced that the authority has formally asked Israel to allow residents of the eastern part of Jerusalem to participate in the legislative and presidential elections, nominating and electing, but has not received a response yet.
