PLO chief executive Saeb Erekat said on Saturday that he did not rule out US President Donald H. Trump declaring the West Bank as Israeli territory and recognizing Gaza as an independent Palestinian state.
Erekat called on the Hamas movement to "agree to resort to the ballot box to end the Palestinian division and to give the opportunity to those who seek to implement the so-called deal of the century."
Erekat stressed the Palestinians´ rejection of this project, praising the efforts of King Abdullah II in supporting the Palestinian cause and keeping it under the spotlight in the Arab and international worlds.
Regarding the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Erekat said that "this decision will not change anything, as evidenced by the opposition of most of the world to this decision and Trump´s decision to recognize the occupied Golan Heights as Israeli territory."
