Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, called on the British government not to respond to the Israeli request regarding settlements, and adhere to the firm positions of the United Kingdom regarding the Israeli colonial settlement and annexation of Palestinian lands and settlements, illegal and contrary to international law.
Erekat said, in a statement, Friday evening, that the recent positions of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Security Council Resolution 2334 of 2016, confirm Britain´s positions regarding the Israeli settlement settlement is illegal.
The Israeli newspaper "Israel Hume" revealed today, Friday, that Israel submitted a request to Britain to include settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as the Golan Heights, within the joint free trade agreement, which will enter into force in January next year, after the separation of the United Kingdom For the European Union.
According to the newspaper, the agreement, which was prepared long before the departure of Britain, was written in the same terms as the agreement with the European Union, which in turn considers the settlements and the Golan occupied territories, and it is refused inclusion in any agreements with Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had spoken to his British counterpart Boris Johnson on the issue.
According to the same newspaper, Israeli Economy Minister Eli Cohen called his British counterpart Connor Burns and asked him to update the agreement.
If this is done, the newspaper considered, this means that Britain recognizes the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan as Israeli regions.
