A computerized CT scanner equipped with a robot can perform sterilization automatically using strong UV rays, speeding up the clinical diagnosis of suspected pneumonia patients in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, the outbreak center of the new Coruna Virus.
The equipment, developed by Professor Yang Yong from the Automation College of Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology in east China´s Zhejiang Province, has been moved to Wuhan to help a medical team from Zhejiang fight the epidemic there.
The scanner was used at the Wuhan Hospital of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which tests more than 200 people every day.
Wang Gang, a doctor at the hospital, said that a large number of patients are waiting for a CT scan. With the robot, the scanner can perform automatic disinfection after completing each round of examination.
"UV sterilization can be completed with the mobile robot within a few minutes, while the medical staff takes half an hour to spray sterilization after each test to prevent the epidemic," Wang added.
Chinese medical workers are racing against time to contain the epidemic. Computed tomography is necessary in every case, diagnosis and evaluation of the recovery situation of the affected patient.
According to Yang, the developer, another 20 CT scanners equipped with sterilization robots will be sent to Wuhan and other cities to help with medical treatment.
Generally confirmed cases of new infections with the new Coronavirus in the Chinese mainland reached 74,185 people by the end of Tuesday, and about 2004 people died due to the epidemic.
