China penalizes 338 illegal live broadcasting platforms

Chinese internet regulators punished 338 illegal live broadcasting platforms amid a nationwide campaign against violations in the industry last month.

About 74,000 live broadcasting studios were closed and 105,000 broadcast accounts closed during the campaign targeting commercial websites, self-media and live broadcasting, according to the China Cyberspace Administration.

The administration said Internet watchdogs across the country have removed about 72,000 unlicensed news service apps from app stores.

Meanwhile, the organizers also removed 6.03 million posts containing illegal content and dealt with 5.59 million illegal accounts, including 169 accounts with more than 1 million followers.
