A number of lucky people who have received a vaccine against the Corona virus will share about one and a half million dollars or scholarships if they win a lottery launched Wednesday by the Canadian province hardest hit by the epidemic, with the aim of accelerating the vaccination campaign.
The government of the province of Manitoba in central Canada announced that it is organizing two lotteries by the end of the summer, for all those who received one or two doses of the vaccine before September 6.
Seven winners of each of the two drawings will be awarded cash prizes of $100,000 each, as well as ten scholarships worth $25,000 each for students aged 12 to 17, according to a government statement.
People who received a first dose of the vaccine before August 2 will be eligible for the first withdrawal, while the second is for people who received the full vaccine before September 6.
"The sooner a person receives the vaccine, the faster they can return to normal life," County Premier Brian Pallister said. This lottery gives Manitoba residents more reasons to roll up their sleeves, not once, but twice.”
Manitoba, with a population of 1.4 million, is the hardest-hit province by COVID-19 in North America, with the highest number of daily infections per capita, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
