Haidian District, northwest of Beijing, capital of China, plans to allocate more space to test self-driving vehicles.
Dai Binbin, head of the Haidian district government, said the neighborhood would build a 100 square kilometer exhibition area for self-propelled vehicles.
The region will become a site for the development of smart cars connected to the Internet and intelligent transportation through multiple scenarios and cloud management and simulation and data support tests, as part of a plan of action issued by the Haidian Government to stimulate creative development in this area.
Companies and researchers can test technologies in computing, logistics, parcel delivery and street cleaning, Dai said.
The Haidian District is working to strengthen international cooperation in this area as it plans to host high-level competitions for vehicles without the driver.
In March 2018, Beijing allocated 33 roads with a total length of 105 kilometers to test autos in Yichuang, Shunyi and Haidian districts, all outside the Fifth Ring Road and away from densely populated areas.
Haidian District is home to Zhongguancun Science Park, the capital of Beijing.
