Al-Khudari: Conditions in Gaza are worsening, and poverty and unemployment are high

Jamal Al-Khudari, head of the People´s Committee to Face the Siege, said today, Wednesday, that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is greatly exacerbated, and that there are more than 70% of Palestinian families in the sector, which are affected by poverty and unemployment very significantly. Especially after the Three Wars.

Al-Khudari said in a press statement that the poverty rate reached 85%, unemployment reached 60% in the sector, the youth unemployment rate reached 70%, and women 90%. Noting that these numbers are very dangerous.

He added, "We went out of 2019, and we started in 2020, without any mobility or any achievements that could save the Palestinian people, in addition to the high lack of liquidity among citizens."

He pointed out that UNRWA is suffering from a major crisis, calling on the international community to form an international safety net, after its mandate was renewed for a period of 3 years, in order to ensure its continued provision of assistance to approximately one million and one hundred thousand refugees.

He stressed the need to end the siege, open the crossings, revive the economic situation, link Gaza to the West Bank through the safe passage, ensure continued full support for all vital sectors, and achieve national unity.
