Al-Khodari: Lack of solutions ("UNRWA ") threatens a more difficult phase

The president of the People´s Committee for the siege of Gaza, Jamal al-Khodari, warned against the current meeting of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, without finding practical solutions to rescue the Palestinian refugees Agency (UNRWA).

"The lives of more than 5 million and 500,000 Palestinian refugees will be difficult and tragic in the humanitarian, health, environmental, educational and different spheres of life, if the UNRWA crisis continues," Al-Khodari said in a press statement on Wednesday.

"UNRWA is one of the United Nations organizations, and its assistance is the task of the General Assembly, which has delegated it to work," he said, calling for concrete and practical steps and full and comprehensive funding to end the deteriorating situation of the refugees.

The failure to end the "UNRWA" financial crisis confirms the existence of political decisions to prevent such funding, he said, adding, "We hope there will be nothing to do with the refugees within what has become known as the century deal."

"The removal of the right of return and the refugee issue was what the United States pointed out when it stopped financial aid from UNRWA, saying that refugee status was not inherited and refused to recognize the real number of refugees."

Al-Khodari pointed out that there are more than a million refugees in Gaza who depend mainly on the assistance they provide to them, and stop them means a death sentence.

He said that half a million students inside and outside Palestine are "threatened with their ignorance and destruction of their future, which requires a decisive international stance to help UNRWA and the consequent rescue of refugees."

He called on donors and states that supported UNRWA to double its budget and fill its fiscal deficit, noting that one State was able to repay the estimated shortfall of $250 million, "a number that is not difficult and can be repaid."
