A young Palestinian man creates a pattern of words and shapes in both Arabic and English in the text of books, producing interesting small artworks.
Ahmed Humaid, a 28-year-old boy, mastered the art of folding paper inspired by the art of the world´s origami, and it took him hours to complete his work at his home in Nusseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
About a year ago, Hamid, who did not complete his education, learned of the art of origami through social networking sites and the Internet.
He told Xinhua that he began to practice this type of art about two months ago, after a period of searching for him and his details, after he attracted him as a strange and distinctive coffin.
The art of folding paper or origami transforms a flat sheet into a final form through sculpting and folding techniques.
Practitioners of this art do not encourage the use of cutting, pasting or making any marks on paper.
Hamid explains that he sought to present a different art by presenting the paper forms that are problematic in the words of Arabic because "Arabic is my language, which I cherish, and because I could not find anyone using Arabic words or letters in the art of origami."
"The art of paper folding needs a lot of time and concentration, and the old books I get from the old books should be used," he says, "because old yellow paper embodies characters more than white paper."
He adds that he uses computer design programs to make a draft of the Arabic word or logo that he wants to make on the book.
Every design that works on Hamid needs a certain size of books or a certain number of pages, and the number of pages of the book that needs work from 300 pages and above.
He developed his mastery in the art of origami so that he now achieves the single-book structure in five hours after it took more than 15 hours.
This young man suffers from unemployment, which has led him to exploit his skills in finding a source of financial income for him, assisted by his family of six.
His sales range from $ 20 to $ 50.
Hamid began receiving requests from inside and outside the Gaza Strip for the completion of Arabic, English, or corporate logos.
He uses social networking sites to promote his business and has a good interaction.
But it suffers from obstacles, most notably the lack of community awareness of this type of art, and the lack of availability of old books characterized by yellow paper and a certain size needed work.
The crisis of power cuts in the Gaza Strip for several years is another obstacle to the work of Hamid, who aspires to have a name and a special logo for the art of books and publishes it on the Arab and international levels.
