A Spaniard confesses to murder on a Thai tourist island

A Spanish man has confessed to killing a foreigner and dismembering his body on the Thai tourist island of Koh Phangan, Thai police said Saturday.

Police believe that body parts, including the hips and thighs, were found in a rubbish dump Thursday, belonging to a 44-year-old Colombian plastic surgeon, Edwin Arrieta Arteaga.

And the police announced that Daniel Sancho Bronchalo (29 years old), who arrived in Thailand on July 31 as part of a tourist visit, had confessed to the murder.

Koh Pha Ngan Police Chief Panya Niratimanon told AFP that Bronchalu "confessed his act," stressing that investigations are underway into the incident.

He added, "The victim and the suspect knew each other before they came to Thailand," pointing out that "Bronchalo's suspicious activities indicated that he might kill the Colombian."

According to media reports, the suspect works as a chef and is the son of well-known Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho.
Pictures of him matched others posted on Daniel Sancho's Instagram account, knowing also that Sancho follows the victim's account.
Neither the Spanish embassy in Bangkok nor Rodolfo Sancho or his business manager responded after Agence France-Presse tried to contact them.
Thailand is a relatively safe country with a limited number of crimes.
