A racket 64 days ago: the detainee Khalil Awawda is in a serious health condition

The Prisoner’s Club confirmed that the detainee Khalil Awawda (40 years), from the town of Idna, west of Hebron, who has been on hunger strike for 64 days, is facing a serious health condition, after which he was transferred from “Ramla” detention center to the Israeli “Asaf Harofeh” hospital.

The Prisoner Club added in a statement today, Wednesday, that despite the serious health situation that he has reached, the occupation authorities continue their intransigence and refusal to respond to his demand of ending his administrative detention, noting that until today there are no signs of serious solutions to his case.

According to the last visit that took place to the detainee, Awawda, where he is in Ramle prison, he confirmed that he suffers from very difficult health conditions and that his body is deteriorating from severe pain, and the abusive measures implemented by the occupation detention administration against him are aggravating the situation.

The occupation authorities deliberately procrastinate in responding to his demand with the aim of exhausting his body and causing him diseases and health problems that are difficult to treat later, as part of the policies that target the detainees physically.

Over the past years, during which hundreds of detainees went on hunger strikes, the occupation authorities worked to establish a number of abusive tools in an attempt to discourage them from this step.

It is noteworthy that the occupation authorities arrested Awawda on December 27, 2021, and an administrative detention order was issued against him for a period of 6 months.

In the same context, the detainee, Raed Rayan (27 years), from the town of Beit Duqqu, northwest of occupied Jerusalem, continues his open hunger strike for the 28th consecutive day, in refusal of his administrative detention, as he suffers from a continuous deterioration of his health condition in the cells of the Ofer Detention Center. The occupation authorities also continue their intransigence and refusal to respond to his demand.

It is noteworthy that the occupation forces arrested Rayan on November 3, 2021, and transferred him to administrative detention for a period of 6 months. He was held in administrative custody and shortly after his release, he was re-arrested.
