A plane burns down after landing on a Mexico highway carrying drugs

A small plane suspected of carrying drugs landed on a highway on Sunday in the state of Quintana Roo in southern Mexico and was burned.

A video posted by the state´s top police official showed smoke billowing from the plane as it was stopping on a two-lane highway.

Public Safety Minister Alberto Capella said the plane "could be related to illegal activities", and it was not clear whether the plane made an emergency landing and caught fire, or whether the smugglers set it on fire.

The Flying Safety Network website said that the plane is a passenger plane designated for 15 BA125 passengers, the year of its manufacture for decades.
