Evona Abraham, the first American female judge of Palestinian origin

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Palestinian-American Evona Abraham as a judge in the Third Circuit Court in Wayne County, the state’s largest county, becoming the first Palestinian to reach this position at the state level, and organizes for a number of judges Palestinians who were previously appointed to several states, including Illinois and New Jersey.

Former attorney Ivona is a judge and director of probation at the District Court in Dearborn Heights, and a faculty member at the Michigan Judicial Institute for Training New Judges.

Ivona is from the town of Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem. She holds a doctorate in law from the University of Detroit Merceau, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan Dearborn.
