The Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies has monitored the issuance of 48 administrative decisions by the occupation courts against child prisoners of the Israeli occupation since the endowment of Jerusalem in late 2015, including two children who are still languishing in the occupation prisons.
The center said in a statement that the sword of administrative detention affects all groups of Palestinian society, including women and children, and the occupation uses it excessively and as a policy of collective punishment, without taking into account the caveats laid down by international law that limit its use except in a very narrow framework.
Riyadh Al-Ashqar, Director of the Center, pointed out that Palestinian children were not immune to this arbitrary policy that affected dozens of them.
He pointed out that the prisoner, Suleiman Salem Qatash, 16 years old, from Ramallah, was arrested in December 2019, and a decision was issued against him for administrative detention and renewed for him 4 consecutive times, and the occupation broke its promise to him after issuing a fundamental decision not to renew him for a fourth time and he was supposed to be released. In December of last year, however, the occupation intelligence renewed him administratively for a fourth time for a period of 4 months, as he is considered the youngest administrative prisoner in the occupation prisons.
The second prisoner, Amal Muammar Nakhla, 17 years old, from Ramallah, was re-arrested on 01/21/2021, and the Occupation Court issued an administrative detention order for a period of 6 months, even though he suffers from poor health conditions and suffers from a rare disease called "myasthenia gravis." Which poses a threat to his life.
He pointed out that the child Nakhla needs special treatment that he takes four times a day and regularly, but he does not receive any treatment in the prisons of the occupation, amid fears that his life will be endangered due to the possibility of his infection with the Corona virus, as he suffers from severe immunity.
Al-Ashqar stated that the occupation is holding (380) prisoners in its prisons, under arbitrary administrative detention. Most of them are released prisoners who spent different periods in prisons and were re-arrested again. Most of them were found for other periods, including 3 female prisoners, and two children.
