50 former Israeli officials have submitted written statements to the Israeli Supreme Court, in a petition calling for an investigation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the case of the purchase of German submarines.
The "submarine deal" or Case 3000 relates to the investigation of alleged commissions in a deal to buy 6 submarines from the German company Thyssenkrupp, as well as approval for Germany to sell two "Dolphin" type submarines and two anti-submarine ships to Egypt.
In December 2019, the Israeli Public Prosecutor´s Office filed an indictment against close to Netanyahu in the same case, but Netanyahu himself was not included in the list of suspects.
Last August, the Movement for the Quality of Governance in Israel (non-governmental) submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, demanding that the submarine case be re-investigated and expanded to include Netanyahu.
The Hebrew newspaper "Yediot Aharonot" said today, Sunday, that 50 former military officials, including chiefs of staff, the commander of the Navy, and senior generals revealed a particularly disturbing picture in the decision-making process, including an indication that the Israeli army did not need to Submarines at all.
"The purchases were made in a very unreasonable way, and it seemed that things were linked to corruption," said Ehud Barak, Chief of Staff, Minister of Defense and former prime minister, in his testimony.
Barak touched on accusing Netanyahu of agreeing to sell advanced submarines to Egypt. If this is proven, the talk is about "unprecedented, unexplained and extremely dangerous behavior, in which the prime minister acts as the person who has the power to decide on such matters alone, although this is not." It is the case in Israel. "
He continued, "It is inconceivable that the prime minister alone would decide Israel´s position regarding the opponents´ possession of major combat systems."
According to the testimony of the former director of the Israeli intelligence service (Mossad) Tamir Pardo, about Netanyahu´s approval of Germany´s selling submarines to Egypt: “It seems that the decision to approve the sale of submarines to Egypt was made in a very fast, unusual way here, without discussions of the professional elements involved, and without proposing. The case is for the approval of the Council of Ministers. "
It is noteworthy that Netanyahu is on trial in 3 corruption cases related to bribery, breach of trust and fraud, and his first trial session began on May 24, and observers and media expect it to take two years or more.
