The Center for Human Rights and Democracy Media "Shams" issued its monthly observatory report for the month of December 2020 on the demolition, confiscation, eviction and seizure of Israeli installations against Palestinian facilities, whether religious, tourist or industrial Or commercial, educational, official or agricultural, with a focus on residential ones.
The monitoring report was based on a methodology based on field monitoring by the team and researchers of the "Shams" Center, who monitored and counted the Israeli violations against Palestinian facilities during the period 12/1/2020 - 31/12/2020 in all West Bank governorates, taking into account the objectives of This monthly observatory, and then work on analyzing the data, disassembling it and producing it in the form of tables, according to a comprehensive map of quantitative and qualitative analytical indicators.
According to the report, during the month of December, the Israeli occupation forces targeted 120 facilities owned by Palestinians, whether by demolishing, confiscating, evicting, or distributing notices, with the intention of targeting these facilities in the future.
The most prominent violations centered on the demolitions, which affected 59 facilities, 7 of which were forced to self-demolish their owners under threat of fines and imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the occupation forces confiscated and seized 5 facilities, and the Israeli Magistrate’s Court issued a decision to evacuate the homes of Jawad Abu Nab and Salem Ghaith in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood in Silwan for the benefit of settlers under the pretext of their ownership of Jews from Yemen since 1881.
The property of Salem Ghaith, a citizen, consists of two floors, and 10 people live in it. As for the property of Jawad Abu Nab, it consists of one apartment whose surroundings were previously controlled and part of it was turned into a synagogue.
As for the notifications, the occupation forces notified 54 facilities for demolition, confiscation or eviction, most of which are residential, in addition to other commercial and agricultural facilities, animal pens and wells for collecting water.
The first indicator focused on the distribution of establishments that were targeted by demolition, confiscation, eviction, or notifications according to their type, which this month included houses and residential rooms (29) establishments, Barakas dwellings (20), dwellings for tents (5), dwellings for caravans (3), and rooms Services (2), water wells (5), retaining walls (2), commercial establishments (17), car wash (2), barns and stockyards for livestock (12), stores (2), rooms, caravans, barracks, saddlebags and greenhouses (11) , Vegetable stands (3), garages (3), in addition to a medical facility, a garden, a cave, and a village council building.
While the second indicator focused on the geographical distribution of violations and monitoring the areas of targeting, the highest targets were in Jerusalem governorate with 17 facilities that were demolished, followed by Hebron governorate with 15 facilities, then Jericho and Al Aghwar governorate with 9 facilities.
As for the notifications, whether of demolition, confiscation, eviction, stopping construction work and other violations that prevent Palestinians from realizing their right to build, rebuild and invest their facilities, the number of notifications reached 54 in different regions.
The notifications indicate the directions of localization of the upcoming Israeli targets of Palestinian installations. The order of the governorates targeted by the notifications was as follows: Hebron 26 facilities, Jenin 18 facilities, Nablus 5 facilities.
The third indicator focused on the target population, and the number of people affected by it during the month of December reached at least 77 people, including 27 children and 7 women, the groups that suffer the most in these cases.
The fourth indicator focused on the arguments used by the Israeli authorities in their attempt to legalize the crime.
The number of facilities that were demolished under the pretext of building without a permit in Area (C) reached 54 out of 59 facilities that were demolished, 3 facilities were targeted under the pretext of harassment on the main street through which settlers pass, and two facilities under the pretext of their proximity to the settlement bypass line.
As for the notifications, most of them were under the pretext of not licensing and building in Area C, and a facility that was notified under the pretext that it was located in an archaeological area, in addition to the occupation forces taking measurements of the house of prisoner Muhammad Qabha in the village of Tura, west of Jenin, and demanded that it be evacuated in preparation for demolishing it in Any moment, under the pretext of acts against the occupation.
With regard to the eviction, it was under the pretext of its ownership by Jews from Yemen. As for the seizure and confiscation of establishments, it was under the pretext of their illegal existence and lack of licensing.
The last indicator reviewed the operations of "self-demolition" and the persistence in oppression by forcing the Palestinians themselves to demolish their installations, foremost of which are their homes under threat of heavy fines. Most of them were in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, and were distributed among five houses, including a house owned by a woman, in addition to a commercial store and a bark for livestock.
In the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, the occupation authorities forced the family of a famous citizen, Ghaith, to demolish her home herself, after notifying her earlier, in order to avoid paying heavy fines in case the occupation authorities carried out the demolition, under the pretext of not being licensed, and she has 5 children, 3 girls. And two boys, the eldest is 18, and the youngest is 11.
The occupation authorities also forced the family of Mahmoud Khaled Al-Khalis in the Silwan neighborhood to personally demolish their house, under the pretext of not being licensed, and later forced the two brothers Muhammad Al-Khalis and Mahmoud Al-Khalis to demolish their homes (two apartments) on the pretext of not being licensed, which is what It was repeated with the citizen Ali Ruwaidi in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, who self-demolished a barka for raising livestock with an area of ​​about 145 square meters, under the pretext of not being licensed.
In the Jabal al-Mukaber neighborhood of Jerusalem, the occupation authorities forced the citizen Fawaz Abdo to personally demolish his house, under the pretext of not being licensed, and Mounir Aweissat demolished his shop in Schools Street in Jabal al-Mukaber town, southeast of occupied East Jerusalem, in implementation of the occupation municipality’s decision. Its area is about 35 square meters, on the grounds of non-licensing.
