4 thousand workers in Gaza without work since the Corona crisis

Sami Al-Amsi, official in the Gaza Trade Union Confederation, said on Sunday that 4 thousand workers have been laid off from their work since the start of the Corona virus crisis, in addition to closing 50 factories.

Al-Amsi indicated in a press statement to him that the number of workers in the Gaza Strip amounts to about 350 thousand workers, of whom 250 thousand are unemployed, and about 100 thousand are still working in different sectors.

He pointed out that the labor force affected by Corona amounted to 140 thousand, of whom 40 thousand were directly affected, pointing out that the most affected were from the tourism sector, hotels, restaurants and kindergartens.

The union official called on the government and donor agencies to include the names of the laid-off workers in their temporary employment programs.

He said: "The fragility of the economic situation in Gaza makes it difficult for them to find job opportunities," noting that workers fall victim to any crisis affecting society, whether due to the occupation or other crises.
