At least three Pakistani soldiers and five Indian soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, the military said yesterday.
Indian troops fired artillery across the Line of Control, the de facto border dividing the Himalayan valley into areas controlled by the two countries, killing the Pakistani soldiers, the military said in a statement.
The statement said that five Indian soldiers were killed by the Pakistani response to the shooting.
These data have not been independently verified.
Although these clashes occur relatively frequently between the two sides, today´s incident comes a few days after the government of India stripped its Muslim-majority area of the special autonomy enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
