The Center for Human Rights and Democracy Information "Shams" launched its monthly observatory for the month of January 2021 on demolitions, confiscations, evictions and seizures by the occupation authorities against Palestinian facilities; Whether religious, tourism, industrial, commercial, educational, official or agricultural, with a focus on residential ones.
It is noteworthy that the "Shams" Center periodically issues monthly, semi-annual and annual specialized observatories on this type of violations and other violations.
The monitoring report was based on a methodology based on field monitoring by the team and researchers of the "Shams" Center, who monitored and counted Israeli violations against Palestinian installations during the period 1/1/2021 - 1/31/2021 in all governorates of the West Bank for the purpose of issuing this monthly observatory. And then work on analyzing the data, disassembling it and producing it in the form of tables, according to a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis map.
According to Shams’s monitoring, during January, the Israeli occupation forces targeted 160 facilities owned by Palestinians, whether by demolishing, confiscating, evicting, or distributing notices with the intention of targeting these facilities in the future.
The most prominent violations centered on the demolition operations that affected (60) facilities, of which (3) were forced to self-demolish them under threat of fines and imprisonment, while the occupation forces confiscated and seized (6) facilities distributed between the governorates of Jerusalem, Hebron and Tulkarm.
The occupation forces confiscated two tents, mobile health facilities, and equipment for hiking, near the entrance to the village of Nabi Samwil in the Jerusalem governorate, owned by Anas Obaid and Majid Issa Barakat, as they were working to establish a park for the citizens, and confiscated a container near the separation wall near the town of Zita in Tulkarm governorate. It was used as a grocery store owned by Mahmoud Tayseer Abu Al-Ezz. A health unit made of tin, owned by Mohammed Abu Aram, was confiscated in the village of Al-Rakiz, located southeast of Yatta in the Hebron governorate.
As for the notifications, the occupation forces notified (94) facilities for demolition, confiscation or eviction, most of which are residential, in addition to other commercial and agricultural facilities, animal pens and wells for collecting water.
Within this, the Jerusalem Occupation Magistrate’s Court handed Nizam Abu Ramz a decision to evacuate his house in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood in the town of Silwan, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, for the benefit of the settlers, on the pretext that the land of the house belongs to Jews from Yemen, and the occupation army decided to demolish the house of the prisoner Muhammad Qabha, which consists of two floors in the village Tora, southwest of Jenin, under the pretext of killing a settler.
It also received notices to evacuate 5 families from the al-Hathalin and Muhammadin Bedouins in the Bedouin community near the Khashm al-Daraj pastoral area east of Yatta, remove their tents, and transfer their herds of livestock under the pretext of conducting military exercises.
The first indicator focused on the distribution of the facilities that were targeted by demolition, confiscation, eviction, or notifications according to their type, which this month included houses and residential rooms (32 establishments), Berksat dwellings (32 establishments), tent dwellings (20 establishments), and caravans housing (5 establishments) ), A school, a building belonging to the village council, commercial facilities (34 facilities), one medical facility, (3) religious facilities, a fuel station, (4) agricultural rooms, an agricultural greenhouse, an agricultural pergola, and (3) rooms, facilities and units Sanitary, (13) barn and bark for livestock, a water well, a building floor, (5) retaining walls, and a vegetable stand.
While the second indicator focused on the geographical distribution of violations, monitoring the areas of targeting. The peak of the attacks was in the Jerusalem governorate with (25) facilities that were demolished, followed by the Jenin governorate with (11) facilities, then Tubas governorate with (8) facilities.
In view of the notifications, whether of demolition, confiscation, eviction, stopping construction work and other violations that prevent Palestinians from realizing their right to build, rebuild and invest their facilities, the number of notifications reached (94) in different regions.
The notifications indicate the directions of localization of upcoming Israeli targets of Palestinian installations. Nablus, Tubas and Hebron governorates were the top three governorates in which residents were notified of demolition, eviction, or confiscation.
The third indicator focused on the target population, since these operations that target Palestinian establishments do not take place in an isolated area from the population, and the number of the affected population in January reached at least 74 people, including 37 children, and a number of women, which are the groups that are affected. Her suffering is greater in these cases.
As for the fourth indicator, it focused on the arguments used by "Israel" in its attempt to legitimize the crime. Given the arguments, the number of facilities that were demolished under the pretext of building without a permit in Areas C reached (55) facilities out of (60) facilities that were demolished, (5) Facilities targeted under the pretext that they are in an Israeli military training area.
As for the notifications, most of the arguments were under the pretext of not licensing and building in areas (C), in addition to other arguments. She forced the citizen Hatem Shaheen al-Salaymeh in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood in Jerusalem to demolish part of his house under the pretext of not being licensed, after I notified him earlier, and he lives in it with his wife and three children, the eldest of whom is 11 years old and the youngest 4 years.
Amjad Jaabis was also forced in the Jabal al-Mukaber neighborhood in Jerusalem, to personally demolish the floor of a building (under construction) under the pretext of not being licensed, and to remove the barbed wire fence surrounding his land, after I notified him earlier, to avoid paying heavy fines.
At its conclusion, the monthly observatory was attached to a detailed table of all violations during the month of January, with details of the names of citizens or entities whose rights were violated as a result of the Israeli operations against Palestinian installations, whether they were demolitions, seizures, confiscations, evictions or notifications.
