Cyprus police on Wednesday arrested 12 Israeli tourists on suspicion of committing a mass rape of a tourist.
The victim was 19 years old and the crime took place in Ayia Napa, south-east of Cyprus.
According to the website of the "Yediot Ahronot", the Israeli Foreign Ministry learned of the arrests, and follow the developments of events.
She noted that the Israeli consul in Nicosia, Yossi Wurmbrand, was in contact with the detainees and their families.
According to reports published by the local Cypriot media, the detainees will be presented to the court today, while medical tests will be conducted for the victim.
The investigation into the crime was initiated following a complaint lodged by the tourist at the local police station, which is still in its initial stages.
