Prime Minister meets Japan´s representative to Palestine

Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh today called for international recognition of the Palestinian state as a precaution against the Israeli annexation scheme.

"Now we have an international consensus that rejects the Israeli annexation, and we want international recognition of the Palestinian state as a precautionary measure, and impose sanctions on Israel if its plans are implemented," Shtayyeh said in a statement after receiving in Ramallah, the representative of Japan to Palestine, Ambassador Masayuki Maguchi.

According to the statement, the representative of Japan made clear his country´s official position rejecting the Israeli annexation plan, and the need for Israel to abide by international law, legitimacy, and UN resolutions.

Majushi said that the implementation of the Israeli annexation plans "will destroy the chances of achieving a two-state solution, and affect Japan´s efforts to support the peace process in the region, especially the Corridor of Peace and Prosperity Initiative."
